Where do Ukrainians look for housing?
21 Nov 2022

According to idealista/data, the demand for housing for sale in idealista from Ukraine has doubled in the last year and has practically tripled compared to 2020, to more than 91,000 searches so far this year.

The three provinces that arouse the most interest are Alicante, Valencia and Barcelona, which account for almost 60% of the total searches so far this year. And although the pull of the three provincial capitals stands out above all, other municipalities such as Torrevieja, Benidorm, Gandía, Cullera, Badalona, Castelldefels and Hospitalet de Llobregat are also in demand.

The following provinces with the most searches are Málaga, Asturias, Madrid, Tarragona, Girona, Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Murcia, followed by Castellón, the Balearic Islands and Almería, all with more than 1,100 entries so far in 2022. In this case, it stands out the interest in municipalities such as Alcorcón in Madrid; Marbella, Estepona, Benalmádena or Mijas in Malaga; San Pedro del Pinatar and Cartagena in Murcia; Arona and Adeje in Santa Cruz; and Langreo or Gijón in Asturias.

On the other hand, the center of the peninsula (with the exception of Madrid) and the westernmost area had the lowest numbers. Guadalajara, Ávila, Ciudad Real, Albacete, Cuenca, Cáceres, Zamora, Soria and Jaén, for example, register less than 100 searches per year, although Ceuta and Melilla are the least attractive destinations in Spain for looking for housing by Ukrainians ( between both autonomous cities they do not reach a dozen searches).

If we look at the year-on-year increase, we discover that interest has grown strongly in the last year in different provinces, from Alicante (231%) and Castellón (201%) to Cádiz (277%), Granada (502%) or Seville (298 %). The increases in Navarra (493%) and Ourense (690%) also stand out.

And all that demand continues to drive the sale of homes in Spain by Ukrainians. According to the latest real estate statistics from the Property Registrars, referring to the third quarter of the year, it was the twelfth most prominent nationality in the residential market (behind the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Romania, Belgium, the Netherlands, Morocco, Italy, Poland , Sweden and China) and recorded the second largest increase in transactions carried out by foreigners compared to spring, after that experienced by Polish buyers.
