What to see in Castalla:

Castalla Castle is a fortress of Islamic origin built in the 11th century on remains from the Neolithic and Iberian-Roman times, with subsequent Christian reforms from the 14th to 16th centuries. It is located on a hill above the town and the course of the Verde River.

The current constructions are from the late Middle Ages and some from the early Modern period. The fortification of elongated shape and delimited by straight wall lines made of mud with cylindrical cubes consists of three parts: the walls, the Torre del Homenaje, called Torre Grossa, and the palace. In the enclosure, which occupied a large area, other towers and walls are visible, other rooms scattered in the central strip, as well as a large cistern. The palace of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries is located in the widest part. Rectangular in plan with two circular towers arranged diagonally, it develops around a courtyard, under which a cistern is located.

The Torre Grossa, from the 16th century, is located in the central part of the enclosure. In 1929 a stone sculpture in the shape of Jesus was sculpted and placed on it, measuring seven meters and resting on a five-meter base. The objective was that it could be seen from all the nearby towns since it was the highest area. In the Spanish Civil War the sculpture was demolished.
The main wall was the last element incorporated into the fortress and completed in the second half of the 16th century.

Xorret de Catí is a rural mountain area, located between the towns of Castalla and Petrel, at about 1,100 meters of altitude. The area is located in the Sierra del Fraile, with a maximum height of 1,261 meters, sometimes also called Sierra de Catí, located a little north of the Sierra del Cid and west of the Sierra del Maigmó.

The Town Hall of Castalla is a Renaissance-style building built in the mid-17th century, a building with the characteristics of the civil constructions of the time in Valencia: ashlar stone façade, ground floor with three semicircular arches that served de Lonja, upper floor with ten semi-circular arched windows, etc.

The hermitage of Sangre de Castalla is a primitive Valencian Gothic religious building, whose origin must be located around the second half of the 13th century as it belongs to the so-called "Gothic of reconquest" style known in this way for being consecrated by Jaime I.

From the 13th to the 16th century it was the Church of Castalla until with the construction of the current Church it became a Hermitage, headquarters of the Brotherhood of Blood and depository of the image of the Virgin of Soledad Patron Saint of the town.

Its style belongs to the primitive Valencian Gothic with a single central nave formed by huge pointed arches, formers and side chapels located between buttresses. The ceiling is coffered, in the XIII century a rococo dressing room was added to safeguard the image of the Virgin.
