a coastal town located in the Valencian Community. It is part of the Comarca de l’Alacantí in the province of Alicante and is the geographical center of the old Huerta de Alicante. In the municipality is the Campus of Health Sciences of the Miguel Hernández University.

The history of San Juan de Alicante is closely related to that of Alicante. Located in the heart of the fertile Huerta de Alicante, it was probably chosen as a settlement by the ancient civilizations that came to these lands.
Municipality whose main economic sector was originally agricultural, economic activities have been increasingly concentrated towards the tertiary sector.

The municipality has an important network of shopping and leisure centers. In the urban area there are numerous shops and restaurants, and a commercial avenue has been created on the side of the Valencia road: large stores, food products, clothing, furniture, decoration, and a large space dedicated to leisure and entertainment .

The town of San Juan de Alicante has a modest heritage of which we can highlight the following buildings:

Church of San Juan Bautista: built on the first church that in turn was raised on the main mosque. Inside, the images of Saint John the Baptist and the Holy Christ of Peace are venerated, among others. It also preserves a replica of the ark of the Holy Face where the village priest Mosén Pedro Mena kept the venerated relic of San Juan.

Hermitage of San Roque: located in the urban center of Benimagrell. This hermitage is the oldest in the town. It preserves its pointed vaults, Gothic ribs. A medallion with the shield of King Jaime I the Conqueror is visible.

Within the defensive-military architecture, the Defense Towers of the Huerta de Alicante, cataloged as Asset of Cultural Interest, stand out. The following are located in San Juan:

Torre Ansaldo: from the beginning of the 16th century. It is prismatic in shape and the loopholes can still be seen on its facades.
Torre Salafranca: built in the 16th century based on ashlars. It has a slope in its lower part and a shield on the facade of the annexed house.

Torre Juana: It is the highest in the municipality. It is probably from the 16th century, although its modifications make its visual dating difficult. It is located on the border between San Juan and Alicante.
Playa de San Juan or San Juan Playa, formerly known as Platja de l'Horta, is one of the best known beaches in the Alicante capital and stretches from Cabo de las Huertas, at its southern end, to Rincón de la Zofra to the north, already in the municipality of Campello. The beach is located about seven kilometers northeast of the city center.

It is also the name of the residential neighborhood located along and in the vicinity of this beach. A residential area with several hotels and a golf course where in summer the population multiplies, mainly due to being a second residence for many Alicante people who live in the center the rest of the year as well as Madrid and, in general, local people. interior of the province or the rest of Spain.
