Valencian Community: the “No to the tourist tax” movement is gaining ground

The opposition to the introduction of the tourist tax in the Valencian Community is gaining followers day by day. Led by the management of the Hosbec hotel, this initiative to develop a digital plate with the slogan "No to the tourist tax", in which those who want to join this protest can sign. (Hosteltur)

In just five days later they entered into force, it exceeded 2,200 signatures, both from tourism and other sectors. It enjoys the support of more than 260 companies and 75 entities and institutions from all over the economic and social sphere.

The objective of this platform is to bring together business and social support against the tax that the parties Botànic intends to implement by law (government agreement signed by the PSPV-PSOE and Compromís, with the support of Podemos). The sector considers that an increase in the tax burden reduces its competitiveness and that it does not pass at present, although the recovery is not yet consolidated.

In addition to the tourist organizations based in this region and the main national ones, the groups AVE (Valencian Association of Entrepreneurs) and Exceltur have joined this movement, according to Hosbec, even businesswomen and executives and the group of independent workers. through the ATA, in addition to other commercial and commercial organizations, domestic tourism, real estate developers and construction, golf courses or marinas, among others.
From Hosbec they assure that "the platform continues to work for us politicians listen to this almost unique voice that demands an exercise of responsibility at an extremely delicate moment for tourist activity".

The platform has even obtained the support of entities from other sectors such as shoe manufacturers, the association of toy manufacturers, the Official Association of Industrial Technical Engineers of Valencia or the funeral sector.
As the aforementioned platform indicates, “the economic reality of tourism in the Community is a reference that must be taken into account when making any decision. We still have a long way to go: the Balearic Islands, Catalonia, the Canary Islands, Andalusia, the Basque Country, Madrid… these are regions that we know both in terms of arrivals and average prices”.

“At the municipal level, a city with a lot of power like Valencia would see its strategy of jumping to the front line of urban destinations in terms of tourist income in danger, clearly losing positions compared to its competitors,” he added.
