Discover the new free highways in Spain this year. Over 600 km of toll-free roads, including sections of the AP-7 and AP-2. These changes will help you save money on your travels!
A total of over 600 kilometers of highways across the Iberian Peninsula will be liberalized, ending their concession.
Last year, around this time, two significant stretches of road became toll-free: the AP-4 between Seville and Cádiz and the AP-7 between Alicante and Tarragona, providing substantial savings for travelers. This year, new roads will also no longer have tolls, with two sections on the AP-7 and another on the AP-2, effective from September 1. The Mediterranean highway, better known as the AP-7, will add over 400 kilometers of toll-free routes thanks to two new sections: the one from Tarragona to La Jonquera (246 km) and the one from Montmeló to El Papiol in Barcelona, which is 179 kilometers long. Thus, on the AP-7, you will only have to pay for 318 kilometers out of the total 948 kilometers.
As for the AP-2, with the opening of km 215 that connects Alfajarín (Zaragoza) to El Vendrell (Tarragona), which was previously managed by Abertis, it will now be toll-free.
In total, 640 kilometers will therefore be free for drivers, but the (high) maintenance costs will be financed by the state and will thus be covered by taxpayers.
Catalonia will undoubtedly be the most favored by all these changes, as in addition to the stretches of the main national highways already mentioned, other sections will also be liberalized:
Thus, the C-32 (Barcelona-El Vendrell) and C-33 (Barcelona-Parets), both owned by Abertis, will also eliminate their tolls this summer, with their management now under the Generalitat of Catalonia.
