Benahavís

Gestalihome sells homes in Benahavís, a typical Andalusian town of white houses and secluded streets located inland on the Western Costa del Sol. The peaceful aspect of the town contrasts with the dynamism of the rest of the municipality, which has a dozen golf courses and an equestrian club.

Founded by the Arabs under the protection of a 10th century fortress, Benahavís is today a perfect combination of tradition and modernity. A charming town that offers endless possibilities as a first-class tourist destination.

Due to its strategic location, the Montemayor Castle became an important bastion during the wars between the Taifa kingdoms of ancient Al-Andalus. The fortress was built in the 10th century and still preserves part of its walls and the Queen's Tower, rooms and a well. This enclave also offers splendid panoramic views of the coast.

Benahavís also treasures from the Arab period several watchtowers that formed a complete defensive system. The Leonera tower, which controlled access to the Guadalmina river valley, together with those of Alcuzcuz, Tramores and Daidín are some of those that remain in the municipality.

Although it was built in the 16th century, the Benahavís Palace has a clear Nasrid inspiration. It is a building with dark stone walls, a beautiful porticoed courtyard and a tower. At present, this property houses the headquarters of the City Council.

Of the religious architecture of the town, the most representative work is the church of the Virgen del Rosario. Founded in the 18th century, it has undergone various reforms throughout history. The current temple is a simple modern-style building with a single nave.
