Aena has allocated 15 Spanish airports in its network space in the departure areas of the facilities to locate COVID-19 diagnostic clinics for passengers leaving the country.

The service is intended to facilitate the return to origin of passengers and tourists who need to reach their destination or avoid quarantines. If a positive result is detected, the alert protocols established by the health authorities of the autonomous communities will be activated.

More precisely, the centers will be installed in the 15 airports with the most international traffic, the so-called tourist airports which include the Balearic Islands and the main Canaries: Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona-El Prat, Malaga, Alicante, Valencia, Seville, Bilbao , Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza, Menorca, Tenerife South, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma. The airport manager regrouped the group of airports into four lots awarded to two winning companies: UTE Recoletas-ArquimeaLagben-GTT, which acquired the center-south lot which includes the airports of Madrid-Barajas, Malaga and Seville.

Eurofins Megalab, to which the other three lots were awarded, the North-East which includes Barcelona-El Prat, Alicante-Elche, Valencia and Bilbao; the Balearic Islands lot with the three airports of the archipelago of Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza and Menorca; and the Canary Islands lot with the airports of Tenerife Sur, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and La Palma.

The contract is for 6 months with the possibility of extension until December 31, 2021. The winners of the service will be able to perform diagnostic tests for active infection (PDIA) for SARS-CoV2: PCR test (RT-PCR of COVID 19 . Nasal and pharyngeal exudate); rapid antibody tests, rapid antigen detection tests or high throughput serologies (ELISA, CLIA, ECLIA) and clinical analyzes.

Authorized diagnostic tests must comply with current health regulations and be approved by the Ministry of Health. Aena demands that the price of the tests be competitive, not abusive and, in no case, higher than the price of the same tests or services in the reference establishments.

Successful bidders have an accredited clinical analysis laboratory and professional qualification to perform PCR tests and other types of analyzes, as well as to prepare results reports for any type of laboratory test. They must have a phone number and / or a web page for passengers to make their reservation and they must indicate the waiting time to receive the result before taking the test, so that the outgoing passenger can plan for its completion.
